Today was about where I personally fit into the industry. The workshops with Alec are always exciting and unexpected. You never know what will come up next.
We started off the day by looking at different job roles that we are interested in and also the things we actually like. Try to combine both. I looked into;
- art director
- researcher
- ideas
- prototypes
- branding
- problem solver
- designer, illustration, etc.
It turns out there is an actual job title for problem solver and someone who come sup with ideas which is called; Business development director .. isn't that fancy.
From this then we had to look into what they actually do which is basically; ideas, problem solving, strategic marketing, developing proposals, etc. From looking at this I also found two other interesting job roles; Platform designer and Social design for wicked problems. I mean.. cool name, but we'll get onto that a bit later.
Some cool websites;
The website above is one of the tasks we had to do. It's a test which LITERALLY will call you out and expose you. I apparently am an Assertive Protagonist.
"Protagonists are natural-born leaders, full of passion and charisma. Forming around two percent of the population, they are oftentimes our politicians, our coaches and our teachers, reaching out and inspiring others to achieve and to do good in the world. With a natural confidence that begets influence, Protagonists take a great deal of pride and joy in guiding others to work together to improve themselves and their community."
This websites shows you all of the crazy job titles people have come up with, it's amazing. You know what, why not, job titles are so difficult to figure out and knows which one fits perfect for you. Make your own, the best one for you.
After this Alec asked us to come up with creative job titles for ourselves. These are mine;
- Inspirational designer
- Motivational creator
- Inspirational maker
- Sustainable founder / creator
- Earth lover maker
- Spiritual initiator
The last two are definitely my favourite ones.
"A vision without execution is a hallucination."
- Thomas Edison
The next exercise was about writing about yourself but as if you are in 5 or 10 years from now.
The rules;
1. Five or ten years in the future.
2. Start with a date set in that future, e.g. 25.06/2025
3. Write in present tense, I have, do, am, etc.
4. Rich details.
5. Professional and personal life.
6. Define success and happiness for you.
7. You don't achieve things alone, consider other people, who are they, why are they there?
My draft;
This is only the beginning... the rest if for me. Soz.
Overall;
It has been an amazing day. I love how Alec managers to fit exercises about life into our careers. It is very important to see how these two link, after all you are a certain type of personality, we are not all the same, we are unique.
