An interesting article about AI..

We got get the task of finding something interesting and different that is currently happening with AI.

I came across the Chinese social credit.. I have decided to look further into it because 1. it has Black mirror references.. which is kind of scary to watch a series and see an episode coming to live - 2. it sounds scary and kind of unreal.

Examples where it has been seen;

Black Mirror - Season 3 Episode 1 (airport scene)

Real footage in China

I find it fascinating to how much they link together. I this real? Are we already living in the future? Is the future here?

What is is?

"The Social Credit System (Chinese: 社会信用体系; pinyin: shèhuì xìnyòng tǐxì) is a national reputation system being developed by the Chinese government. ... The system will be one unified system and there will be a single system-wide social credit score for each citizen and business."

How does it do?

"China plans to rank all its citizens based on their "social credit" by 2020. People can be rewarded or punished according to their scores. Like private financial credit scores, a person's social scores can move up and down according to their behaviour."

How does it work?

"Under tight biometric surveillance, and using 200 million surveillance cameras, every move, from shopping to personal relationships can be monitored using AI. ... Every observed action can affect a social credit score in real time. You could go out one day with a score of 900, and if you have a few negative encounters with anything or anyone, your score could be shot to pieces by the time you return home."

How is AI involved with the social credit score?

- algorithms

- formulaic responses to the social credit scoring system

- range is vast

- observed actions

How and why is it useful?

- finding lost kids/ kidnapped kids

- people with dementia

- crime prevention

- reliable court evidence

- safety net for everyone

- people trafficking

Overall, in my opinion I think this might be too much. However, when people imagine and think about the future I think this is what we have in mind not just 'robots will take our jobs and lives'. I like the benefit side of it, I think it would be great to know where kidnapped children go such as the Madeleine Mccann girl who has been missing for more than 12 years and everyone has done everything in their powers to find her. Things like this would be pretty much gone and we would 'all be safe', but we also would have no privacy and we would loose our characters and self.
