The unsigned artist...

Updated: Oct 11, 2019

I came up with some questions and then also decided to research some question for the interview we wanted to do with our artist.

As I was writing them in my book I was thinking it would be easier to share them with Esther through google drive so I moved onto there and it was definitely a better choice as it looked much better and was easier for the interview later.

The questions;

Tell us about you. (age, name, race, school, background)

Why do you make this type of art?

Does your artwork represent anything, if so what?

What inspires you to make this art?

When did you know you wanted to be who you are and create this type of art? (age?)

What inspires you in life?

How do you make your art? (certain materials, techniques)

What does your art mean to you?

Who are your biggest influences?

How do you seek out opportunities?

Which current art world trends are you following?

What do you like most about being an artist?

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Do habits help (or hinder) creativity?

What is the biggest problem you’ve had to overcome so far?

What do you enjoy most about being a musician? / What do you hate the most?

If you could change anything about the industry what, what would it be?

Describe your sound.

Tell us something that no one else knows about.

What advice would you have for someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?

When writing out the questions I tried to make sure I got questions for both his personality, but also him as a musician.

His answers were quite incredible, I am very happy that we found him because he was such an open person it made it easier for us to understanding him, his personality, his attitude towards life and his musician career.

We decided to voice record the video using an iPhone, video record the interview my using the iPad and after we were finished both of us tried to transcript the interview so we can refer back to it however, the apps we has available were quite bad, so we decided to listen to the interview again separately and see what got our attention the most.

Me and Esther both realised we like the fact that YangRae is very layered person. The above image are my notes which are quite repetitive to as in what interests me about him. The ones underlined with red are the ones that are outstanding for me. One particularly took my attention, when he mentions that a part of him was taken away when he went to the military. I really like the idea and can imagine him being stuck in a box and becomes build up from all of his frustrations that he's doing things he hates and then when the box fills up it's almost like the explodes with loads of colours and you can see the freedom he get's, the real him comes out.
