Today was quite hard. I realised that the way I wanted to make the installation isn't going to work. Had about 5 meltdowns, but we'll get it together.
I started off by placing what shape we wanted to make in the back so I can work with the objects of front of it. The idea was that when I take the letters off the shapes will naturally create this shape as I was using them as a guidelines.
So, when I took the letter off I can see it, however when we asked other people they though it was cool, but they just wouldn't out together what it was supposed to create. One of the reasons it didn't work is because I did them diagonally. The second reason why it didn't work is because the objects became heavy and the fish wire was layered on top of them which made them even heavier.
At this moment I began to panic as I could see that no way can I submit this. It was unprofessional, it was rough, it was messy and it just didn't work.
From this I had to think how we can turn it around but still be able to use the same context from the original idea which is the perceptual art from Michael Murphy.
I though okay, he is layered, if we bring the object to go straight down and we laser cut many more we can create even messier background. For the main image we would use him as a big cut out to create him as a focus point and show him.
So, I tried..
It had already started looking so much better. The next thing I had to do was print more objects and make it messier, more layered and spray paint them.
